Principal's Update: Term 2, Week 8
Being a school principal does come with an ever-increasing range of challenges. Although I love my job and feel privileged to lead such a wonderful school as CCAS, the demands that society places on schools, social challenges being faced by our children and the increasingly complex compliance frameworks we are required to operate within means running a school is not getting any easier. But it is not all bad news and I count my blessings as I look over the fence at the challenges many other schools are managing. Although CCAS is not perfect, we are very blessed as a school community for what we have, our students, our staff, our facilities, the educational programs we offer, and most importantly our culture. It is an intangible aspect of the CCAS community, but something that is fundamental to what attracts so many to our school and drives the word-of-mouth recommendations and reputation here on the Central Coast. For all of that I am grateful.
One of the favorite parts of my job is enrolment interviews – introducing new families to our school. You might still remember your interview and introduction to the CCAS community which gives me the opportunity to share what we have to offer for your child– Christian Education, something I truly believe in. Providing wholistic education in a nurturing and supportive environment, a place where students can thrive as we navigate the many challenges that life throws our way and prepare students for their future.
Thanks for being part of the CCAS community and enjoy this week’s newsletter.

France 2024 - Trip Update
Bonjour.
Seven of our Year 10 French students have just completed an enriching week at Collége Pierre Grange in Albertville, France. Staying with welcoming host families, they fully immersed themselves in French culture and education.
Last Thursday, our students attended a special presentation by their French peers, delivered in English, highlighting the unique aspects of life in the picturesque Savoie region. In return, our students introduced their hosts to a taste of Australian culture with activities featuring tasting Vegemite (which was very interesting), Tim Tam slams, decorating and eating Pavlovas, and a spirited game of Handball.
This trip is set to deepen as we welcomed an additional 17 students on Sunday. Together, our group of 24 students and 4 staff will embark on an exciting journey, spending the next few weeks exploring and experiencing the rich culture and vibrant life of France.
Stay connected with our students' adventures in France by following their blog (link below) for the latest updates and experiences.

HRIS Year 5/6 Basketball Gala
On Wednesday, our Year 5/6 CCAS basketball teams attended the HRIS Basketball Gala in Newcastle, marking a day filled with excitement, teamwork, and outstanding athletic performances. Both teams demonstrated exceptional enthusiasm and sportsmanship throughout the event, making our school proud.
The girls' team played a total of six games, showcasing their skill and determination on the court. They achieved three impressive victories, faced two narrow defeats, and secured one draw. Their consistent performance earned them a well-deserved 3rd place overall.
The boys' team had an extraordinary day, going undefeated in all six of their games. Their remarkable teamwork and relentless effort led them to be crowned the HRIS champions.
Thanks to Mr Callum and Caleb D for their expert training and coaching on the day and Oliver K and Dezmond K for scoring all our games.
Well done students!

Basketball: HRIS Success (Open Boys and Girls)
The annual HRIS Basketball Competition recently took place in Broadmeadows Basketball Stadium on June 5. After taking home both the Open Boys and Open Girls categories in 2023, the teams were eager to bring them home again in 2024.
The Open Boys had a commendable performance in the competition but left empty handed, finishing third out of 15 schools. The day started with CIS NSW Representative player Caleb Dunstan going down with an injury in the opening minutes of the first game, adding to the days challenges of rotating players into their native positions on the court. Despite this setback, the boys won their Pool A matches against Lakes Grammar (22-16) and Hunter Valley Grammar School (16-13), with a bye being awarded due to an absent team. The boys triumphed over Calrossy Anglican in the quarterfinals (30-16) and were poised for the highly anticipated match against Avondale in the semifinals, after Avondale unsuspectingly dropped a pool match. Ideally this match would have been the grand final and it was slated to be a tough match given the accumulation of injuries we had sustained. With the short games and a slow start the boys placed themselves in a tough position that they couldn't come back from and lost 11-24. CCAS then managed to secure third place in the bronze medal match by defeating Saint Columba 44-29 in a match where the boys finally looked like themselves on the court. The boys maintain a strong season record of 10-2.
The Open Girls started their campaign in Pool A with a slow but solid 25-9 victory over Hunter Valley Grammar School. They then had straightforward wins against Macquarie College with a score of 31-3, and Heritage College with 25-2. This performance placed them first in their pool. In the semifinals, they defeated Saint Phillips Christian College Newcastle 32-12 and looked strong as they progressed through to the finals. CCAS capped their dominant run by winning the grand final against Central Coast Sports College with a decisive win 15-4, holding the opposition to only 1 point in the first half! The girls were clearly the dominant team within the tournament and have maintained an almost undefeated record all year in competition, only dropping one game at AICES in February. Great work for the girls in winning yet another HRIS tournament, this is their third year in a row taking the trophy home! The girls season record now stands at 10-1.

A Symphony In Film
Last week our Year 12 music students had a memorable experience at the Sydney Opera House, where they enjoyed the Sydney Symphony Orchestra performing famous John Williams movie themes. The concert featured iconic scores from films like "Star Wars," "Harry Potter," "Indiana Jones," "Jurassic Park," and "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial."
The students were very impressed by the orchestra's performance and gained a deeper appreciation for how music enhances storytelling in film. Overall, it was a rewarding educational experience that deepened the students' understanding of music's role in film.

Student Achievement: Addison Gale
We are delighted to announce that Addison Gale recently competed as part of the AFL CISNSW team at the NSW All Schools Championships in Albury on the 3rd and 4th of June.
Addison’s selection for the CISNSW team was a result of consistent hard work and dedication to the sport. As an active member of the Sydney Swans Academy, Addison has honed her skills and demonstrated outstanding performance. Her commitment to training and passion for AFL were evident in every game and practice session.

Bush to Beach: 600km Walk for Blood
Scott Worgan, Dad to our students Scarlet, Sienna and Mace will soon be walking 600 km from his hometown of Inverell, Northern NSW to Terrigal on the Central Coast. This is to raise awareness of the importance of blood donations.
"Our gorgeous daughter Sienna (SJ) was always the life of the party, but that spark was almost all but blown out when she was diagnosed with Leukaemia in August last year. Since her diagnosis SJ has received 30 blood transfusions. Like many cancer patients, SJ requires blood transfusions due to low blood cell counts caused by chemotherapy treatment and the cancer itself.
But, SJ isn’t alone. One in three Aussies will need blood during their lifetime, however, only 3% donate today.
My goal is to change this. "
