Principal's Update: Term 1, Week 11
Welcome to the final week of the term.
As you know, our Cross Country carnivals had to be postponed last Friday, so we will enjoy these events on Tuesday for our Primary students and Thursday for Secondary, but at an alternate venue this year – Hilton Moore Park. We are also looking to run the Infants (Pre-Kindy – Year 1) Carnival here at school on Tuesday afternoon. Parents as always, are welcome to attend. Not a bad way to break up the last week of what has been a slightly longer term.
I do want to take this opportunity as we finish up the term to thank you again for being part of our community and for your ongoing support and contribution to CCAS. It is not something we take for granted and is a big part of who we are as a school. Next term we are looking to facilitate a few surveys – you may have already received a test email checking the validity of your contact details – which are designed to provide us with formal feedback across all areas of our school. The last time we did this was 2 years ago so we thought it timely to again facilitate this opportunity. We will provide more details next term.
As we finish up the term over the next few days, I want to wish you all a safe term break – no Easter
holidays this time around – but hopefully some opportunity to enjoy time with the family.
Mr Tony Kent
Principal
5 Lands Walk - 2024
Each year, the Darkinjung Local Aboriginal Land Council invites all residents of the Central Coast to participate in the annual 5 Lands Walk.
This walk follows the whale migrations along the coastline, from Macmasters to Terrigal Beach. A time of cultural significance to the Darkinjung people, it is a highlight of the year for the Central Coast community.
For dates, please read the information on the provided image, or click the following link for more in-depth details.

Winter Uniform Term 2 Reminder
This is a reminder that from the beginning of Term 2 (April 29th) winter uniform is compulsory.
Secondary students who arrive in incorrect jumpers/hoodies will be given a CCAS uniform replacement to wear for the day. PE jackets should be worn with PE or sports uniform. Jumpers should be worn with the dress uniform. CCAS wind jackets can be worn as an additional layer with either uniform.
Thank you for noting this.

Primary CIS Soccer
On Thursday Nate R and Archer P braved the wet weather and represented HRIS at the CIS Soccer Championships. Both boys played extremely well in the very trying conditions and managed to score 1 goal each. The HRIS team walked away with 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss for the championships.
Well done Nate and Archer!

SDL Trivia Night
Last Thursday night over 70 students and staff attended the SDL Trivia Night run by the amazing Community Events Group. They put our brains to the test with their clever questions and challenges throughout the night and it was great to see students and staff having fun during intermission.
These 6 girls are a hard-working team who should be very, very proud of the night they pulled off.

NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge
Yes, The PRC has begun!
What is the PRC?
The Premier of NSW aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely. The Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is open to all NSW students in Kindergarten to Year 10.
At the end of the year those who have completed the challenge receive a certificate from the Premier of NSW.
What do you do?
Students are to read PRC titles + a selection of free choice books
Log into the PRC website using your username & password (available from the Library)
Enter titles to your record
Once students log 5 books against their name they will receive a bookmark. When they complete the challenge they will be able to add their name to the display board to be a part of the Building Readers Display Board
This board will be created by students as they complete stages of the challenge. They will be building their future library… (to tie in with the current building project)
CHALLENGE OPENS: Monday 26th February, 2024
CHALLENGE CLOSES: Friday 23rd August, 2024

Rainy Days In The Library
Lunch time in the library is a hive of activity and even more so this week with the wet weather arriving. It's amazing how many students we can fit in here at one lunchtime!
Drawing, building, reading and chatting are all favourite pastimes.

The CCAS Chatter
Extra, Extra, Read all about it!
Have you heard the CHATTER? We have our 2024 CCAS Chatter Newspaper Team.
The "M & M S S S" have rolled in, they have their press passes, notepads & pens and are ready to report on the Chatter around the school. If you see Max, Maddy, Sofia, Sarina, or Sophie coming your way with their notepad get ready to help them bring the news to our Primary School.
This year the team behind the scenes has changed slightly with the wonderful Mrs Ibbott stepping back and handing over the role to Mrs Robertson.
We would like to acknowledge and thank Mrs Ibbott for her passion and dedication to starting this project a few years ago, and look forward to continuing her legacy for us all to enjoy.

Camp Quality Talk
Last Thursday, our Primary students were visited by some very special puppets from Camp Quality, an Australian company that brings positivity, fun, and laughter back into the lives of kids facing cancer. Their presentation helped our students understand and learn more about cancer and how we, as a school, can create an optimistic, resilient, and supportive community for impacted kids and families.
