Principal's Update: Term 1, Week 3

CCAS is more than just a school – a place to send your children to be educated. We are a community. Somewhere you can belong, align, support each other, journey together through life and thrive. Our CCAS community is our students (past and present), our staff, and you - our parents and extended families, and I don’t think it is an overstatement to say our community is unique and special in a good way. It was why many of you have chosen to join CCAS and this sense of community is something I both value and hold in high esteem.
Last week, we gathered as a subset of this community in our opening combined chapel with K-12 and staff together in the sports centre. It was a sight to behold all 1100 students and most of our staff together in one building, celebrating the start of another year together. Thank you for being part of this school, for trusting us with your children, for partnering with us in their education. We look forward to another great year together!
Speaking of community, I need to just touch on the importance of us being respectful of our
neighbours – the local businesses adjacent to CCAS – when it comes to parking, drop off and pick up, particularly in the morning and afternoon. I appreciate that parking remains an ongoing challenge,
but please do not park in designated parking spots set aside for customers of local businesses when
picking up or dropping off your child. We have fielded a couple of complaints last week and it sadly
reflects poorly on us as a school when you don’t do the right thing. Our bottom Kiss and Drop zone is
working efficiently and remains the best avenue to drop off or pick up your child. Also a reminder
not to use the Admin Carpark off Penrose Cresent as a drop off zone. Thanks for your help with this.
Finally, as we start week three of the term, I hope your children are settling into the routine of school
for another year.
Enjoy the rest of this week’s newsletter.

Principal
Primary Parent / Teacher Meetings – Feb 22
We would like to invite you to join us for our Parent / Teacher Meet and Greet evening on Wednesday, February 22nd.
This is a great opportunity for parents to share information with your child’s teacher about your child and to assist the teacher in understanding the needs of the students to support their learning. At this event, you will have the opportunity to discuss your child’s strengths and areas for improvement, along with any individual needs or requests.
We understand that parents are often busy and that it is not always easy to find time to attend such events. If you are unable to attend please contact your teacher for another time you may be able to meet. If you have not already organised a meeting, please book your place by using the link below. Please note that sessions are 10min in length.
We look forward to seeing you there!

Head of Primary School
Primary School - Early Student Pickups
To help us ensure that your child is ready for when you arrive for an early pickup, please notify the class teacher and primary reception of your pickup time well in advance. Staff may be unable to regularly check emails and may not be aware of details of students leaving.
Please also ensure that students check out through Primary Administration so that their leave is recorded.

Enrolment Applications for Kindy 2025 and Year 7 2026
In the coming weeks we will be commencing the enrolment process for Kindy 2025, with Year 7 2026 applications being processed later this term.
As you are aware, siblings are given priority for a place, so if you are yet to submit an application for your child, please do so ASAP via the School Website.
Please note current students are not required to submit an application form as their place is already guaranteed.
If you have any questions, please contact our Registrar at enrol@ccas.nsw.edu.au.

Year 12 Jackets Artwork
In recent years, our Year 12 students have expressed a desire to include First Nations designs on their jackets. In 2023, we added an Acknowledgement of Country. In 2024, we have incorporated original artwork, telling the story of our school.
In First Nations culture, artwork often tells a story of significance. This led to the opportunity of asking Lola Lofthouse, a proud Gomeroi student, to design an artwork that captured the story of CCAS. This sheet aims to teach you the symbolism behind this design. When you encounter inevitable questions, you will be able to share the story of our school confidently.
This artwork represents that no matter where you come from, we can celebrate our differences together as a community at CCAS.
If you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to contact Mr. Jackson Burke.

Primary Parent Information Night
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents who attended our Parent Information Night last week. Your involvement in our school community and willingness to take part made the evening a huge success!
We were delighted to have so many parents in attendance and are grateful for the valuable questions that were asked. The evening was filled with information and resources, providing parents with the tools and knowledge to support their children’s education. The feedback we have received has been overwhelmingly positive and we are confident that this event has strengthened the partnership between our school and our community. We look forward to continuing this strong relationship and building on the success of the evening.
For those unable to attend, please check in the SEQTA Parent Portal for Year level information that was used on the night.

Year 6 In The iLab
In the early hours of Thursday morning last week cyclone Alex hit the Central Coast. Luckily damage was limited to the Primary School iLab room. Students and parents were shocked at the scene of utter devastation, although one student commented that it was no worse than their bedroom normally looks.

No need for concern however, as the year 6 students found out later, it was just the start of their science and geography project for this term. After the clean-up, two staff from the Adventist Development and Relief Agency ADRA, Murray Miller and Keli-Jo Leslie, talked to the students about the agency and the impact of their work in Australia and around the world.

Wellbeing Webinar – Breaking Point, with Dr Justin Coulson - 27 Feb
Latest national statistics indicate that mental health challenges are at an all-time high in Australian children and youth. Anxiety, depression, and other mental health disorders are wreaking havoc in our schools and families (not to mention the amplification of these challenges if your child is neuro-diverse). Suicide and self-harm are rising. And finding the right support and good help is increasingly challenging.
How do we know if our kids will be ok? What can we do to support their mental health and resilience? What’s going wrong, and how do we fix it?
Join Dr Justin Coulson, Australia’s leading parenting expert, as he unpacks the mental health crisis enveloping our kids. He’ll cover:
- The root causes behind the deteriorating state of mental health, and who (or what) is responsible
- The tools you need to reverse this trend for your children
- Science-backed, relationship-focused strategies to remedy school refusal.
- Realistic approaches for managing screen time in a way that protects your child’s wellbeing without completely alienating them from their peers
- Creating margin in your home and family life to protect and promote mental wellness
