Principal's Update: Term 1, Week 2
Welcome to the 2024 school year here at CCAS and our first newsletter.
It was such a privilege to welcome our new and returning students back to school last week. I trust that all have settled in well to the new school year. On behalf of the entire staff, I do want to extend a warm welcome to our new families joining our CCAS school community. We look forward to a really positive and productive year ahead.
CCAS has always prioritized communication and feedback to parents as we partner to give your child the best educational experiences. This year will see some further developments in this space as we move to a continuous reporting model for communicating student academic progress. We have been developing this for some time through our SEQTA Parent Portals providing Secondary and Upper Primary parents with real-time feedback on student progress and results in assessments and tests as well as the traditional half-yearly and yearly reports. In 2024 this will be further extended in line with both parent expectations (thanks to those who participated in the survey last year) and educational trends to provide real-time access to student progress rather than retrospective reports across the school.
Parent-teacher interviews will continue to play an important role in our reporting and feedback to parents and formal reports will be replaced with Academic Transcripts as a summary of results each semester for all grades except Kindergarten. More details will be shared with you in the coming weeks, but I wanted to flag this important development as we continue to refine and improve.
As most will have seen our building program is progressing well, which is exciting to see. The project is on time and on budget (music to my ears), and we look forward to this new facility being completed early in Term 4.
Hoping that you enjoy all that we have to share in this week’s newsletter.
Mr Tony Kent
Principal
Primary Parent Information Night
Join us for this year's Parents-Teacher Night tomorrow evening, February 6th.
Teachers will share information on the year's activities and classroom operations. We want to continue to create an environment where every child thrives through a partnership with home and school. Each session will be approx 30-45min. Connect with teachers, gain insights, and discover resources to support your child's journey.
We can't wait to see you there!

Secondary Uniform Reminders
We are pleased with the level of uniform compliance from a majority of our students. Thank you for your support in this area. Students have had a reminder about the uniform policy this week. There are a few areas that we will be monitoring including:
- Students wearing PE all day when they should be in Dress uniform
- Girls skirt length (should be just above the knee)
- Girls can wear ONE stud in each ear lobe.
- Boys hair length (should be above the collar)

Kindergarten Students In The Library
We are excited to announce that our Kindergarten students have taken their first steps toward becoming lifelong readers!
They visited the school library to meet Mrs Robertson and Mrs Pitter, and together we read a book and learnt about how to look after our library books at home and at school, the importance of using a library bag and how in the future they will be able to borrow different books each week to take home and read.
Our library mascot, Olly the Bookworm, features in our classes by hiding throughout our mural on the back wall of the library. There is always great excitement in seeing where he chooses to hide each week.
To continue the bookworm theme, we presented students with their very own Bookworm to look after and read with. The excitement this generated can be seen in the photos. Students will spend some time with their new friend and photos of their adventures will be made into a book for all to see.
A huge shout out to the students who gave up time in their holidays to help create these bookworms - Hannah, Talia, JJ, Valentina & Mikayla - THANK YOU

Student Achievement- Dylan Tea
This past week saw many of the best up-and-coming basketball players in the country make the long journey to Ballarat (VIC) for the U20 Australian National Championships. Central Coast Adventist School was represented in part by Dylan Tea who has been selected for the NSW team in his 5th consecutive year - a feat even at this level.
Dylan has made a name for himself locally on the Central Coast, within NSW and at a National level as a promising player at both ends of the court - certainly someone to keep an eye on in the future. The Australian National Championship for this age group is regarded by most as the platform that athletes spring from as they look to be picked up for the Australian U19 team as well as gain international attention from scouts from the US.
In Ballarat, Dylan put on a number of strong performances as a starter for the NSW squad however as a team they lost two key games against Tasmania (89-90) and South Australia (91-93), ultimately they ended up having to take out Western Australia to finish in 5th place.
The hope for Dylan is to be a part of the conversation for international selection where he can progress further in the Basketball Australia Pathway and he is looking forward to his US College tour later on during the year.
Congratulations Dylan on your basketball achievements and for representing the Central Coast with pride!

Paul Dillon Presentations
This Thursday, February 8th, our years 10, 11 & 12 students will participate in presentations with Paul Dillon, the Director and founder of DARTA (Drug and Alcohol Research and Training Australia).
Our Year 10 students will focus on the risks and consequences of substance abuse and will be given strategies on how to handle alcohol-related emergencies and how to take care of their friends in these circumstances. Year 11’s presentation will expand on these practical and helpful strategies but also explore the impact drug use has on young people’s mental health and brain function. In Year 12’s presentation, Paul will concentrate on the consequences of substance abuse behind the wheel. He will include the devastating impact illicit drugs can have on a young person’s life and touch on the health issues associated with vaping. He will emphasize the importance of seeking help when either themselves or someone they know is in danger.
We look forward to Paul Dillon’s presentations this week as they will give our students a better understanding of the dangers of substance abuse, practical strategies to deal with difficult situations and help them make informed decisions about their futures.

Pixevety - Photo Consent
We are changing the way we manage image consent at our school. Starting in 2024, we will be transitioning to the Pixevety System for all things related to image consent.
What is Pixevety?
Pixevety is a consent-driven media management system that helps us safely collect, organise, protect, and share images. The school has been using this system to share photos for the past few years, and we are now centralising consent management within Pixevety as it provides more options and control over how children's images are used compared to Consent2Go.
Keep an eye on your inbox for an upcoming email containing detailed information on how to provide or update image consent for your child/ren through Pixevety. New families will also receive the link to register for the platform.
We understand that some parents may have already updated photo consent in Consent2Go this year. However, we kindly request you to access and update Pixevety as well, as consent options differ between the two platforms, and unfortunately, they won't be automatically transferred from Consent2Go.

Haven Church Dedication Service
Last Saturday, our church and school community came together to kickstart the year with a dedication service where we united in prayer, seeking God's guidance for the year ahead. Each year presents unique challenges, offering us opportunities for growth and learning. We prayed for students, staff and our school community as a whole. Amidst the uncertainties, our unwavering commitment lies in trusting and growing in Jesus.
As we embark on this new chapter, we extend an invitation to our broader community in meeting our campus church on Saturday mornings, beginning at 9:30 am. We look forward to welcoming you and sharing in the spirit of fellowship and worship.

Haven Campus Church Pastor

Wellbeing Webinar – Breaking Point, with Dr Justin Coulson
Latest national statistics indicate that mental health challenges are at an all-time high in Australian children and youth. Anxiety, depression, and other mental health disorders are wreaking havoc in our schools and families (not to mention the amplification of these challenges if your child is neuro-diverse). Suicide and self-harm are rising. And finding the right support and good help is increasingly challenging.
How do we know if our kids will be ok? What can we do to support their mental health and resilience? What’s going wrong, and how do we fix it?
Join Dr Justin Coulson, Australia’s leading parenting expert, as he unpacks the mental health crisis enveloping our kids. He’ll cover:
- The root causes behind the deteriorating state of mental health, and who (or what) is responsible
- The tools you need to reverse this trend for your children
- Science-backed, relationship-focused strategies to remedy school refusal.
- Realistic approaches for managing screen time in a way that protects your child’s wellbeing without completely alienating them from their peers
- Creating margin in your home and family life to protect and promote mental wellness
