Principal's Update: Term 1, Week 4

The start of every school year involves a necessary period of settling in. There are new routines, new relationships, new learning environments, new teachers and many new experiences. While it is important to settle into a routine, the adjustments and growth opportunities that come through that settling-in process are equally important to our personal growth and education.
One of the super positive adjustments for many within the school has been settling into the use of our new facility, The Learning Hub and it's associated areas. All departments that are housed in this facility have now moved in, the furnishings are 95% in place, the Resource Centre is fully functional, classes are now fully timetabled for Secondary on the top floor and the Senior Study Area and newly refurbished Year 12 Common room (which we opened last Friday) are in full use. It is such a blessing to our school and we are experiencing firsthand the additional benefits these facilities provide for both students and staff.
I am very keen to give you all a tour of the facility and have identified the perfect opportunity at our Open Day on March 26, just over a month away. We plan to have an 'Open House' of the Learning Hub as part of our Open Day and you are all invited to come along.
Hoping you enjoy this week’s newsletter.
Mr Tony Kent
Principal

Secondary Homework Help

Homework help is a time for Secondary students to come and get specific help with work that they might be struggling with during class time.
Students will get the most out of these sessions if they come with specific questions for the teachers or explain areas where they need a bit more help.
Homework Help runs between 3 - 4 pm after school. Tuesday is for Maths and HSIE, and Thursdays is for English and Science.

Head of Secondary School
Year 5 Camp
The Year 5 students had an unforgettable time at Camp Wolstoncroft, where they spent three action-packed days embracing the outdoors. From sailing and kayaking on the water to rock climbing and archery on land, every activity challenged them to step outside their comfort zones. The students also enjoyed raft building, teamwork challenges, and many other exciting experiences. A special highlight of the camp was sharing it with our sister school, Avondale, creating new friendships and memories along the way.
Beyond the adventure and fun, the camp was a powerful lesson in resilience. Many students faced fears—whether it was climbing higher than they thought possible, staying balanced on a kayak, or pushing through a tough challenge—but with encouragement and determination, they overcame them.
Evening worship sessions with Pastor Leighton and Chappy Jess provided time for reflection, reinforcing the importance of faith. Chappy Jess spoke to the students about Jesus being our guiding light and how he calls us to be a beacon for others to come to know His love and grace.
It was an incredible experience that will stay with the students for years to come.
Mr Craig Davis
Head of Primary School

CCAS Exchange Program: Hosting A Student
Each year, CCAS welcomes exchange students through the ‘Students of the World’ Exchange program. Our CCAS students get to interact and build friendships with these students. For some of our early exchanges, these friendships have now spanned over a decade, with Australian families visiting the exchange family in their home country.
If you and your family are interested in hosting a student sometime this autumn and/or winter, please contact Mrs Grange via email (mgrange@ccas.nsw.edu.au) or text (0415 92 32 75) for more information.
Thank you for considering this enriching opportunity!
Mrs Marilyn Grange

Update Your Child's Image Use Preferences On Pixevety

This is a reminder for parents to please update their child's image use permissions in Pixevety for this year.
We rely on these permissions to feature your child in newsletters, social media, and other school-related publications. With many Camps happening, it's important that these permissions reflect your preferences.
Why You Should Update Your Preferences:
All students whose parents have not updated their image usage preferences have system-generated permissions that allow their images to be used, including on social media, without mentioning their names.
We please ask that parents adjust these settings according to their preferences.
How to Update Your Preferences:
Please click here for a User Guide on how to update your child’s consent settings in Pixevety.
New Parents:
If you haven't registered with Pixevety yet, please click here for instructions on setting up your account and updating your preferences.
Key Publishing Consent Options to Consider:
Control how and where your child's images can be published on different platforms:
- Yes (with tags): Allows us to publish images with your child's name.
- Yes (without tags): Allows us to publish images without your child's name.
- No: Prevents the school from publishing or sharing images of your child, which may result in your child's face being blurred or not appearing in group photos.
Important Notes:
- Opting for "No" on image usage may mean your child will not be included in group photos during school events and activities.
- If you select "Private" visibility, only parents of the children in the photos and school staff will be able to view the images.
If you have any questions or need further assistance, please contact us at marketing@ccas.nsw.edu.au.

Casey's Visit To Kindy
Last week, our CCAS Way mascot, Casey the Chameleon, came to visit our Kindy students for a morning worship. Casey and Mr Crabtree shared the importance of our values: Compassion, Integrity, Perseverance & Respect. We all got to act out actions for each of the values, talk about how we can show these while at school, and then celebrate with a high 5 and photo with Casey.
We're all looking forward to further developing students' recognition of our values, making these a fun part of school life, and further getting to know Casey over the years.
Mr James Crabtree
Assistant Head of Primary School

Student Achievement: Coast Next Gen Art Exhibition
We want to congratulate Sienna Grazianni, Rhiannon Watt and Charlie Heise whose 2024 HSC Visual Arts Major Works were selected for the University of Newcastle's "Coast Next Gen Art" Exhibition 2025.
This exhibition celebrates 34 students' art projects across 12 Central Coast Schools. To have 3 of our Year 12 students is an amazing achievement and a testament to their efforts and hard work throughout their studies, and we couldn't be prouder.
The Exhibition opens on Friday 28th February for the artists and their guests, and will formally open to the public on Monday 3rd of March – Friday 4th of April 2025, at the University of Newcastle Ourimbah Campus.

Parenting Toolbox: Ten Facts about First Borns Every Parent (and Teacher) Should Know.

Firstborns may not always rule the world, but with families shrinking, their numbers make them a significant force to be reckoned with.
Here are ten evidence-backed and observational facts about firstborns that will shape how you parent, teach and coach this fascinating group.
Happy Families: Compassion - The Parenting Superpower Most Mums and Dads Aren’t Using
Every interaction with your child is either building connection or creating distance. Most parents are unknowingly choosing distance without realising the long-term emotional consequences.
Compassion is the answer. I know… It feels like a sharp command, a clear consequence, and a stern face will get you where you want to go faster: maybe it will. But you’re playing a longer game.
Check out some practical ways, shared by Dr Justion Coulson, to practice compassionate parenting.

Help Keep Our School Healthy
With one of our students immunosuppressed, we must maintain a vigilant approach to illness prevention. We urge you to keep your child at home if they are feeling unwell. This not only helps safeguard their own health but also protects their classmates, especially those who may be more vulnerable.
If your child contracts Measles, Chickenpox, Shingles, Influenza or COVID-19, please notify us immediately so we can take appropriate measures.
Additionally, please reinforce the importance of proper hygiene practices with your children. Regular handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes, and avoiding close contact with others when feeling unwell are simple yet effective measures in preventing the spread of illness.
Your support and cooperation in this matter are greatly appreciated as we strive to foster a healthy and thriving learning environment for all.
Thank you for your understanding and commitment to our school community's well-being.
