Principal's Update: Term 3, Week 5

Although it may already feel like a distant memory, I wanted to take this opportunity to acknowledge our Years 1-3 Primary Musical from last week. What a great event. To see all our infants students up on stage performing like seasoned professionals was a testament to our staff, students and of course our parents working together to provide these opportunities showcasing talents and skills. Well done everyone! Next year it is a Secondary Musical as part of the ongoing cycle of performing arts opportunities across the school.
It is hard to believe we are approaching the halfway point of the term. For our Year 12 students the end is fast approaching with trial exams now completed and the last push through to the actual HSC Examinations.
This week we have our WOSE program happening each day - a highlight of the CCAS spiritual program. On Thursday we have Hopefest, the fundraising event to support our service trips each year, and then next week our Year 10 students head off for their ski camp at the snow – one of the highlights of our camps program.
Busy, but exciting times ahead!
I hope you enjoy this week’s newsletter.
Mr Tony Kent
Principal
Primary Musical Success
Last week we wrapped up our Primary Musical, You Are Special.
Our Years 1-3 students and Primary teachers worked hard for months on this production, and their talent on the stage dazzled their families and peers over 4 incredible performances.
Thank you to everyone involved in bringing this musical to life. It was a massive team effort stretching from our parents to our Primary and Secondary teachers, our IT & Support staff to our very own students, and we are grateful we have a school community that encourages and supports these opportunities our students have.

WOSE & Hopefest 2024
This WOSE, we have guest speaker Aman Grant leading our students in worship to the theme "The Battle Belongs", focusing on how all our battles- no matter what kind- are fought by God. Aman will touch on the story of Gideon and many others throughout the week.
Hopefest, our fundraising event for mission trips, is on this Thursday, and the theme is "green". We ask that students bring a cold coin donation and extra cash to spend at the stalls and activities planned throughout the day. Please note, this year we are not accepting card/Eftpos.
If you have any saleable clothes in good condition that you would like to donate to our Hopefest op-shop we would be very grateful. Please drop them off at the Chaplaincy offices at the back of the Naomi Frew Hall.

Deep Learning: Competency Of Collaboration
This week we’re looking at the competency of Collaboration. Collaboration is all about working interdependently with others. It involves making important decisions together as well as learning from others and contributing to their learning too.
This competency can be further expanded into the following ‘dimensions’ (you might have seen some of these turning up in SEQTA).
When working interdependently as a team, students find ways to use everyone’s strengths. They grow and learn together. They understand the importance of group decision-making and make sure that all team members are able to contribute.
Interpersonal and team-related skills - students work with other group members to make the collaborative process as effective as possible. They make sure that everyone's ideas, knowledge, and abilities are heard and valued. In this way, they ensure that the work is the best that it can be.
Social, emotional, and intercultural skills are important too, when working with others. Students show that they have a strong sense of themselves and their culture. They communicate respectfully with everyone and form positive relationships with team members. They understand other people’s perspectives and are able to change their behaviour after listening to others.
Every team faces its own trials and managing team dynamics and challenges is a vital skill to develop. When facing challenges, students firmly understand their own and others’ points of view. They can express their perspective clearly while also learning from others. They value the mix of opinions and find ways to grow and achieve together.
When it comes to leveraging digital, students effortlessly use technology to collaborate effectively. They shape technology to meet the needs of the group in ways that allow all members to make significant contributions to the task.
We shared the short video below with all of our Secondary students last week to help them understand why we've been working to create deeper learning experiences. Take a look.
Next week we’ll take a look at Communication. As always, if you have any questions, just ask!

Help Keep Our School Healthy
As we continue to prioritise the health and safety of our school community, we kindly ask for your cooperation in ensuring a healthy environment for all students and staff.
With one of our students immunosuppressed, we must maintain a vigilant approach to illness prevention. We urge you to keep your child at home if they are feeling unwell. This not only helps safeguard their own health but also protects their classmates, especially those who may be more vulnerable.
If your child contracts Measles, Chickenpox, Shingles, Influenza or COVID-19, please notify us immediately so we can take appropriate measures.
Additionally, please reinforce the importance of proper hygiene practices with your children. Regular handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes, and avoiding close contact with others when feeling unwell are simple yet effective measures in preventing the spread of illness.
Your support and cooperation in this matter are greatly appreciated as we strive to foster a healthy and thriving learning environment for all.
Thank you for your understanding and commitment to our school community's well-being.

Update Your Child's Image Use Preferences On Pixevety

This is a reminder for parents who have not yet updated their child's image use permissions in Pixevety for this year.
Earlier in the year, we transitioned from Consent2Go to Pixevety, and we still need your assistance in updating your child's information in the new system. We rely on these permissions to feature your child in newsletters, social media, and other school-related publications.
Why You Should Update Your Preferences:
All students whose parents have not updated their image usage preferences have system-generated permissions, that allow their images to be used, including on social media, without mentioning their names.
We please ask that parents adjust these settings according to their preferences.
How to Update Your Preferences:
Please click here for a User Guide on how to update your child’s consent settings in Pixevety.
New Parents:
If you haven't registered with Pixevety yet, please click here for instructions on setting up your account and updating your preferences.
Key Publishing Consent Options to Consider:
Control how and where your child's images can be published on different platforms:
- Yes (with tags): Allows us to publish images with your child's name.
- Yes (without tags): Allows us to publish images without your child's name.
- No: Prevents the school from publishing or sharing images of your child, which may result in your child's face being blurred or not appearing in group photos.
Important Notes:
- Opting for "No" on image usage may mean your child will not be included in group photos during school events and activities.
- If you select "Private" visibility, only parents of the children in the photos and school staff will be able to view the images.
Please Note: All students' portraits will be included in our Waves Yearbook regardless of the consent options chosen in Pixevety.
If you have any questions or need further assistance, please contact us at marketing@ccas.nsw.edu.au.

Primary HRIS Soccer
Our Year 5/6 1st Division Football team took out the HRIS competition!
We were up against 30 schools and took home to gold. It was a great feeling taking the win from the Central Coast Sports College, who defeated us last year.

Book Week Wrap up
Book Week came and went in a beautiful flash. We enjoyed the Book Character Parade but our fun continued into last week with daily lunchtime activities.
The crafts chosen were to celebrate some of the books that were short listed by the Children’s Book Council of Australia. We painted the colours of Australia, made a picnic rug from Grace & Mr Milligan, expressed our emotions making a wrapped bear from Bear and Duck are friends, decorated the shadow tree and gave birds arms.

Many of the CBCA Shortlisted books have now been added to our collection and the students have enjoyed reading them over the past few weeks. Our Book Week Olympics involved students voting for the book they thought should win.

Max Potential Leadership Program
Two of our Year 11 students participated in Max Potential, a Community Leadership Program. Sienna Smith and Aiden Watkins completed their leadership training journey last week, with a wonderful expo and presentation day at Gosford RSL.
Both Sienna and Aiden completed a community-building project over the course of this year. Sienna’s focus was on using waste as a form of art to highlight the need to reduce waste's impact on our environment. Aiden’s project was in support of retired greyhound racing dogs as companion pets for wellbeing.
Both students presented their projects at the expo on Thursday afternoon with great interest from the public. Later on, they were presented with a certificate from the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Gosford, Ms Leisl Dorothy.
Both students represented themselves and our school proudly.
Congratulations!

Year 10 Work Experience
Each year our Year 10 Students engage in a Work Experience program to give them exposure to the workplace in an industry that they are considering for a career pathway.
As you can appreciate, finding placement can be difficult, so I am reaching out to the school community to ask for assistance in finding placements. The range of careers is extensive but a couple I am looking for, law and architecture, are proving to be difficult to place.
Work Experience Dates: Monday, October 14 to Friday, October 18.
So, if you are in a workplace or run a business that would be open to taking one of our students for Work Experience, or for part of the week, please reach out to me by email: peter.wrankmore@ccas.nsw.edu.au

Year 7 Zoo Excursion
On Thursday 15th August, Year 7 students visited Sydney Zoo, designed to deepen their understanding of animal classification, habitats and adaptations.
Throughout the day, students engaged in two learning experiences, observing the complex relationships between animals and their environments. By studying behavioural patterns and identifying unique adaptations, they gained valuable insights into the remarkable ways animals survive and thrive in their natural ecosystems. This experience also offered the students a chance to reflect on the intricate design of God's creation, marvelling at how each creature is wonderfully made.

Science Class Pets
The Science Department has some new pets: Six Australian Leaf Insects (Phyllium monteithi). Known for its incredible mimicry, this insect looks just like a leaf, allowing it to blend seamlessly into its environment. Students are excited to learn about its unique reproductive abilities and adaptations that will benefit all year levels.
