Principal's Update: Term 2, Week 2

It was a pleasure to welcome our students back to school last week and to have everyone settle into the usual routine. We are looking forward to another great term ahead.
I hope that you all enjoyed some family time over the break, with not just the two long weekends back-to-back, but also the significant commemorative events that they represent; Easter, a time of celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus, and Anzac Day, a commemoration of the sacrifice made by so many to keep our country at peace. I enjoyed the opportunity to accompany our student leaders to the Dawn Service at Terrigal on Anzac Day, where we participated in the March and Wreath Laying service to pay our respects, as we do each year. I was very proud of them as they represented CCAS with dignity.
On a more sombre note, I want to take a moment in our newsletter to share with our community the sad passing of one of our school's previous Principals, Mr Ray Faull (Principal from 1981 – 1988), who passed away last week. Ray leaves a significant legacy for Central Coast Adventist School. He led our school through some of the formative years, including the development of the High School, and left a lasting impact. He moved on from his role at CCAS to oversee Adventist Education across all Northern NSW, but continued to be an active supporter of our school and a member of our Haven Campus Church till his passing. I would count Ray as a great mentor, one whom I have the greatest respect for. A true Christian gentleman. May he rest in peace.
There is already much to share after the first week of school, and I trust that you enjoy the rest of this week's newsletter.
Mr Tony Kent
Principal

Important: Early Student Pickup Information
To ensure your child is ready to be collected early, please notify the school of your pickup time well in advance, and do not expect your child to be ready until this time. You can do this via phone call or email.
We ask for plenty of notice as staff may not have a phone in their classroom or be able to check emails regularly, and won't be aware of the details of students leaving.
Giving us this notice avoids a last-minute scramble, prevents any confusion, and keeps everyone running on time (without having us run to collect your child!)
Please also ensure that students check out through Primary/High School Reception so that their leave is recorded.
Thank you in advance.
Administration Team
Consent2Go Permission

Throughout the term, students are given many opportunities to attend excursions and sporting events. To help staff plan effectively, we ask that you open and complete all Consent2Go permission emails promptly.
Please note:
Permissions must be completed before the day of the event.
Students without completed permissions on Consent2Go will not be able to attend the excursion/event.
You do not need to follow up with the school on the day of the event if you’ve already completed the permission form.
If your email address has changed recently, please contact the Main Office so we can update your details.

Help Keep Our School Healthy
With one of our students immunosuppressed, we must maintain a vigilant approach to illness prevention. We urge you to keep your child at home if they are feeling unwell. This not only helps safeguard their own health but also protects their classmates, especially those who may be more vulnerable.
If your child contracts Measles, Chickenpox, Shingles, Influenza or COVID-19, please notify us immediately so we can take appropriate measures.
Additionally, please reinforce the importance of proper hygiene practices with your children. Regular handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes, and avoiding close contact with others when feeling unwell are simple yet effective measures in preventing the spread of illness.
Your support and cooperation in this matter are greatly appreciated as we strive to foster a healthy and thriving learning environment for all.
Thank you for your understanding and commitment to our school community's well-being.

Year 10 Geography: Waste Matters Project Showcase
Last Friday, Year 10 HSIE (Geography) showcased their sustainable solutions to waste management in our school campus.
They presented the products they designed and created as a sustainable solution to meet the waste management needs of our school. Year 4 students attended and voted for the most novel/creative product and the most sustainable solution.

Year 8 Poetry Masterclass With Will Small
As part of their study of life-writing in English last term, students were studying the poetry of Will Small, a local poet from the Central Coast. Students benefited from performances of his work and a masterclass with him in Week 10.
Students learned about using the ordinary moments of life as a stimulus for their poetry, and drew from their knowledge of figurative devices to write short evocative poems.
Learning partnerships like these provide valuable opportunities for students to deepen their learning and appreciate the real-world application of the skills they are developing as young writers.
Mrs Hannah Rappell
Head of English

CCAS Uniform Shop: Updated In-Store Payment Options
Due to a shift in how shoppers spend and the way banks are transacting, Alinta has decided to become a cashless company. This decision has come due to several factors:
- Consumers no longer carry cash.
- Local branches are closing.
- Local branches are becoming cashless and making depositing cash difficult.
Cash will no longer be accepted in store as of 1 June 2025
We apologise for any inconvenience this causes.

Parenting Toolbox: Specialist Or Generalist?

Should my child specialise in an area or interest from a young age, or should I encourage them to try many activities?
It’s a great question to ask as the ramifications, as you’ll read below, are so important.
Specialist or generalist? What should I encourage my child to be?

Safe on Social: Your Teen’s Phone Is A Portal

Removing phones from bedrooms at night won’t eliminate all risk. It’s not about control, it’s about clarity. Boundaries don’t lock kids in. They give them room to breathe.
And parents, you have every right to create those conditions.
Bible Verse Of The Week
